True Colin! I think they were subtly denying it food even though I watched them feeding, it was always the last one to get to food. Hindsight is a great thing.

I added an old rotting Alder trunk today, I'm not sure whether it will be soft enough for them as they get further into it but they wasted no time starting on it

I'm trying to keep the chat going on here but I think I'm fighting a loosing battle. I find it strange that a chatty bunch of bird keepers have nothing to say!
Happy New Year!

you think this site is bad for chat ? Have you looked @ the footfall on this Birdkeeping site www.featheredflyer.co.uk/index.php?/discover/ ? Sadly all too many who post questions want quick answers & little conversation . Sadly I'm not very god @ conversation and ideally for topics to have more conversation they need several people posting on them

Yeah I gave up on featheredflyer years ago unfortunately. The Barbets are still steadily taking food from my fingers, hell of a bite when they fancy a bit more! Meanwhile my Caiques are getting confused by the unseasonably warm weather and have started working the nest boxes.
Bit of an event with one of my daughters budgies that I found egg bound this morning, we warmed her up and with the aid of some olive oil and a warm compress I managed to massage it out in around half an hour. A first for me.
