Do they breed well in that size? I like your improvised cage fronts.

Hi, unfortunately I lost the cock bird at the start of the breeding season, only have the hen at the moment. I would say yes to breeding in that size of cage, give them plenty time to settle and have plenty of patience. Have bred White-wagtails, Senegal Zosterops,Pintailed-nonparials,Bearded- reedlings and Black-headed Honeycreepers among others in these size of cages. I have also had my share of disappointments.

There are  a reasonable amount of Pekin robins being bred here in the UK they are one of those species that has been a problem to get to go to nest it dont if sexed or not, it seems that compatability plays a major part many people have tried for many years with 100% cock & hen but nothing it but those that do click normally breed quite well, my advice is if possible purchase a number of captive bred young birds put different coloured split rings on them not too big otherwise you will find them caught up and watch who preffers who and take note.then seperate from the others sell or exchange the ones you dont need.
I have only ever bred with1pr of Pekin Robins & it was nothig to do with my efforts they were put temp in a 6ftx3ft place with no cover what so ever just perches they scraped a few bits t start a nest so i chucked some material in for them they built a lovely nest laid 4 eggs and hatched all 4 & reared them, the cock was a brilliant dad he fed the chicks continously when the chicks were full he used to bounce on the nest to wake them up the female rarely fed the chicks at all.

Thanks for the advice Peter, my Pekin Robin plans have been shelved for now as I've found some Bearded Barbets. They aren't too far from me which is rare as I normally end up on a mammoth journey, just need to sortbsome temporary accommodation for them. They three siblings so I'll be needing to source some swaps at some point, I'm not sure on sex yet as the chap I'm getting them from isn't confident enough to be sure.
