Pekins was created by Mark Powis
Hi,
My Pekins had built a nest and sat 3 eggs but the chicks died at around 6 days old not sure why as i supplied a mix of livefood and there was plenty in the dish although their preferred food is Waxworms.
The chicks died last week and i am pretty sure that the hen is back in the nest so hopefully she has laid again.
Any tips?
Thanks
Mark.

I make sure a good supply of vitamins is fed to the chicks ,dusted egg cake and the live food is also fed a lot of multi vitamins.Mine like crickets over mealworms but a variety is better. Hope you have better luck the second time.

Hi Florin, what is the best way of feeding multi vitamins to the live food as dusting just get knocked off when the parents whack the food on the perches.
What size crickets do you feed when the chicks first hatch?
Thank you
Mark.

i use brown crickets size small/med i put them in a high sided plastic storage container, i feed them any of the following, carrot, cucumber, fresh grass,
cabbage, chickweed, when needed i chill them a bit before removing some it stops them jumping in all directions and put in a high sided container in the flight which i put some forrest floor debri in this gives the livefood you are feeding somewhere to hide and stimulates the parent birds to search for there food,
Baked eggshells put in a blender will give you calcium which you can sprinkle over them..

Thank you Peter, I will use your tips and have ordered small brown crickets this morning.
Have you used Pinkies from the fishing tackle shop cleaned for a week in maize as mine won't taken frozen Pinkies either.

Hi, i am pretty sure my Pekins have chicks again now and i have stocked up on Waxworms and mini waxworms and ordered more crickets although i don't think the parents were eating these before the chicks may have hatched.
