Yuhina eyes was created by Simon Porritt
Hi, we have a pair of White-collared Yuhina - and the hen has recenlty appeard to have an eye condition. Often the right eye is closed and the right fine, and occasionally both eyes seem closed (and she does not apear to be sleeping) then at other times both eyes seem fine. There is no apparent damage or build up of puss or the like. I have checked the literature and other than "artificial tears" as a general eye treatment I can not get to the bottom of what may be the issue and the cure. Anyone else come across something similar in their birds? Thanks

hi have you checked for a cataract ? If your not sure it is a white disc inside the eye due to clouding of the lens

Not sure about prevention /treatment . Surgery for cataracts has been done on some raptors but ?? not possible on smaller birds

I'd be interested to hear others experiences on cataracts as I've recently lost a hen Pekin robin with catarcts , and the cock from my breeding pair of Burnished Buff Tanagers is having problems althogh he's had some inflamation around the eyes which I've been treating with Herbots Golden Eye from pigeons.mercasystems.com/index.php/ & that is helping him but is not a total solution
