Hi Colin, along with the Dodo, the Great Auk, the Passenger Pigeon, these fall into the species most people relate to modern day extinction. Martha, she was named after the then US Presidents wife was the last P/Pigeon, she died in Cincinnati Zoo in 1914. She outlived two cock birds that were with her in a last attempt to breed, it is believed she was about 29years old when she died. James..

thi nk they might of been the last PP's in captivity as I've got an old report somewhere that talks of birds in the wild untill the late 50's

Hi Colin, notable information that I have read, states that the last wild specimens were shot in 1901 and only zoos and some private collectors had a few birds in their possession and that the bird called Martha was indeed the last of her species. There were a few species simllar but were different species in their own right. James.

Not sure where the publication the info is in is but I've had it since the ? 60's And don't ??? think my memory has failed that much but then again perhaps it has ??
