Well last Sunday 20th May i had a busy day too busy, with trying to get all my birds fed and watered then go to Gravesend to collect a female Banded pitta kindly on breeding loan then onto Southend , when i got home i had a check around my birds i looked into there food dishes and found that the Red throated barbets had not touched there food ! so i looked in there aviary and could not see them then i realised that i had not put there water container on properly and to make matters worse because it was a hot day i left the safety door open so it didnt get too hot and both the male and female were gone....there have been no reported sightings of them.

I have had a run of similar events , lost a female bearded reedling, female black redstart both were in the safety porch but I didn't check properly .( I know that they are not as rare or valuable as the barbets
Can you try playing a recording of the barbets ?
Chris
