Not sure if there’s been much discussion for things that trigger birds to nest , apart from diet, increasing light/warmth etc.

But reading the book breeding birds of Southern Africa by Peter stern he said that in studies a high percentage of black flycatcher nests were discovered in holes in trees blackened by fire , the thinking is the birds do this to hide their black colour on the nest.
As I’ve got a pr I will be painting their nest boxes black this season.

Can be anything that triggers breeding . Depending on what species you keep . Rain fall tends to trigger some birds to breed especially after a warm spell or during a warm spell . Certain nest boxes or nest areas and nest material can trigger birds .The most often trigger is a variety of livefood .
I have just started to use Birdsong on CD for my African species of softbills . The excitement and display of some birds is beyond what I expected . So much so I have stopped playing the cd for a few weeks until I pair up properly .
