One of my favourites,
The Eastern bluebird, i have 1pr of these lovely birds and hoping to breed from them another uk member has these too and several European bird keepers they seem to be more difficult to breed than the more widely kept and bred than the Western bluebird (Sialia mexicana). a colour variant of the Eastern bluebird which is already being bred and offered for sale in the Netherlands by a breeder i know which is recessive, which means both male and female can look normal coloured but both can carry the gene.
These birds have a good survival method of keeping warm, in this man made nesting box 11 adult birds 6 females & 5 males have snuggled down with the females below in the warmest place if this is the usual way who knows this can only be known by a large scale study of the species.
One of the biggest problems is getting pure bred birds, i have seen Western x Eastern pairs offered for sale here in the uk but you can see the difference but if you dont know then you are relying on the honesty of the seller.

Would love a pair of these but am happy to wait until yours breed, especially after reading your post. Sounds a really interesting challenge and they are beautiful .

Is it known if these birds are possibly related?
Or do wild birds come together to form such a sleeping community?
This is very interesting, never have I read or heard such like this!

Be careful with wishes, they might come true

Hi Peter, when you said you seen Western x Eastern pairs for sale, is it hybrid birds or is it one from each species? James.
